That 24 Hour Rule...

...really makes me mad sometimes and, I think, is very unfair. What rule is that? The one where you have to call 24 hours in advance -- and sometimes it's 48 hours -- to cancel a doctor's appointment or they charge you for the visit. Yes, that happened to me today. I picked up my daughter to take her to an appt we both had scheduled. I felt very light headed after a coughing spasm that wouldn't quit. The virus I've been battling with for the last 2 weeks comes around at least once a day to knock me flat. I didn't feel well enough to drive safely and so I called to cancel. At first it seemed to be okay when I explained I felt dizzy but then someone from the office called back to say that because I hadn't called within the 24 (or was it 48?) hours, they were going to charge us...and we might be discharged as patients!

What????

You know what really ticks me off is how are you supposed to help it if you get sick after the golden moment has passed? I don't have a crystal ball and can't foresee when I'm going to be sick. I suppose next time I'll have to bite a bullet and just go and hope I don't have an accident if I'm really too ill to drive. :P
