Feline Friday: Play with me! No, play with me!

Mom and Dad Bean bought a whole bunch of treats and toys for the four legged kids in the house and everyone's enjoying them. Buddy, the Lab with ADD, doesn't seem to know what to do with the stuffed quacking mallard although he did polish off a meaty bone in less than 20 minutes.

The rest of the gang have got nip, mice and balls to chase and toys on sticks or poles. The favorite by far seems to be this dancing brightly colored fish on a yellow pole. It's got a suction cup at the other end so that we could stick it on some surface and let the guys'n'gal (Indy won't come downstairs) bat at it but it's ever so much more fun to hold the pole and play that way.

Amber, who's made her way back into our room to play and sleep, especially enjoys jumping for the flying fish.

This morning, the boys were nearby so I tempted them with the fish and Mouse bit right away. As he became more enthusiastic in his play, Kosmo seemed to become grumpier and practically glared at Mouse. As soon as Mouse put a paw in Kosmo's space bubble, big brother turned on him and began boxing Mouse's ears with his paws. Kosmo also battened down on Mouse like a vampire on a juicy victim. That didn't stop Mouse from playing, though, and Kosmo just looked huffier. Whenever I tried to tempt Kosmo, though, he acted like he couldn't be bothered. That's a cat for you!

I wished I'd had my camera or camcorder out and caught some of that. I knew if I reached for either of them, though, it would all be over. This picture of Mouse and Kosmo squaring off is from yesterday. When Mouse has catnip he becomes aggressive and it's Kosmo who was under attack this time!
