A Resentful Union

TB called his union this morning. When he was injured a couple of years ago, we were able to pay his co-pay portion of health insurance (a whole lot less expensive than COBRA) for two years. TB wanted to know if we could do that again, since he intends to go back to work once he has back surgery.

The union president was snotty with TB. He said the rules have changed and after a year, if you don't come back to work, you have to pay for COBRA or drop the insurance. The full COBRA payment for a family is $1200 a month and when TB said, how can we afford that? We have no income coming in. And the guy, Ralph, said snidely, "Exactly. And how have we been able to carry you for a year?"

What a thing to say to someone who has been a loyal hard working member of that crummy union for so many years? Loyal and hard working, yes, and let his body get all beat up too with no thanks at all--just resentment because now he needs help from doctors.

Screw that union. They're just blood suckers too.

I have to wait until we have no insurance before I can apply for NJ Family Care.

Some days the news just seems to be all bad. But don't give up all hope of things ever getting better.

What about Medicaid? The rules are different in every state but if you qualify for medicare you should be eligible to apply for Medicaid. Also your town should have some sort of geeral assistance or at least access to a free clinic. It's not optimum, but might be better than nothing. Try contacting your congrssman or state rep for help.
