Whew!

I'm relieved to get this screen. I got a screen earlier that there was some kind of problem and right away I thought about what happened to Diary-x. What a disaster! The server crashed and the owner of Diary-x hadn't backed it up. How many times have I lost entries that way? Now multiply that by all the entries of all the diarists who didn't back up their writing.

Is there a way to back-up our blogger blogs? This really worries me.

On the bright side, that powder was not ricin, thank God, and now I can stop worrying about my son and his rolls of quarters for laundry!

I'm also relieved that Dubai Ports is giving Bush "save-face" room by offering to delay the stupid deal this administration made with them.

New Orleans is celebrating Mardi Gras -- good for them! I'm glad to see them recovering and able to celebrate even though a lot of the city is still destroyed. It seems like they're going to thumb their noses at predictions that their city is bound to sink beneath the sea.

My husband sent me a link to an article published online on Feb. 22nd:

New Orleans Says It Won't Give Free Ride and the gist of it seems to be if a former resident was on Welfare, don't come back!

Here's what the article says:

New Orleans doesn't want its poorest residents back — unless they agree to work.

That was the message from three New Orleans City Council members who said government programs have "pampered" the city's residents for too long.

The news that some New Orleans City Council members weren't keen on the city's poorest returning home added another layer of discomfort in Houston, where local residents and elected officials alike have stretched to meet the needs of thousands of Louisiana residents in the months after Hurricane Katrina.

Chief among the complaints: Houston didn't discriminate when New Orleanians — from the poorest to the richest — filled this city's homes, hotels, motels and shelters. And Houston didn't flinch when nearly 100,000 evacuees needed subsidized housing for up to a year. So why, asked one Houston city councilman, are only the educated, healthy and employable welcome back in New Orleans?

Ah, very interesting. Well, how does New Orleans propose to keep these people out? Are they going to guard the borders into the city with guns or something? Yeesh!

Tuesday Twosome:

1. How long have you had your blog/site? What is the main purpose you opened your blog/site up?

This one? Just a few months. I have other blogs/diaries that have been online 3-4 years.

2. Do you prefer elaborate or simple layouts? Explain:

I prefer original layouts! They can be elaborate as long as it's not too hard to find stuff on the site.

3. List the two main things that annoy you when visiting other sites:

Bright clashing colors and hard-to-read text

4. Do you solicit visitors to your blog/site (rotations/plug sites/etc.)? Do you return comments left on your site?

I don't go out and try to get visitors but I do try to return comments if I can

5. Do you belong to any internet cliques and if so, how many?

No
