Thursday Thirteen #11: Why Puzzles Are Good For You

Create your own puzzles at PuzzleBee.com!

I'm posting my TT really early because I'll be away with my daughter until tomorrow evening. She has insomnia and is having a sleep study. Maybe we'll do some puzzles together!

Thirteen Things about the Benefits of Puzzles

1. They are considered exercise for the brain and exercise is healthy for you!
2. This kind of exercise strengthens five areas of your brain, specifically those that control attention, language, memory, visual-spatial, and executive function
3. By stimulating your brain cells with puzzles, you can slow down the affects of aging
4. They're fun to do
5. It's an excellent alternative to watching TV or playing video games all the time
6. Children can develop hand-eye coordination by working puzzles
7. Puzzles help children learn to sort by color, shape and size
8. They help people work together in teams--i.e. when families play together, they use problem solving skills and cooperate together
9. You get a sense of accomplishment when you finish a puzzle
10. With crossword puzzles, you can learn lots of new words and build your vocabulary
11. You can carry puzzle books around with you
12. Puzzle books aren't expensive
13. They give you something constructive to do with your hands when you're trying to quit smoking or snacking

I am sure about the benefits of puzzles - I just can't seem to find the time or patience to deal with them, hahahahahahahha.
Don't forget to check out our blog during the next 5 days - we are on a St.Patrick's Day adventure in Ireland!!!

I just wanted to tell you I get a kick out of the puzzles you post on here. I've always liked doing puzzles, but I also have trouble finding time to do them. But it's nice to find one when I check out your blog, and the few minutes I get of distraction because of them is always appreciated ;)

This was a great reminder that I used to love to do all kinds of puzzles and I just sort of got out of the habit. I think I'll pick it up again and maybe get my daughter involved too!
Great post -- hope your daughter's sleep study went well!
