I'm trying not to worry or feel nervous about the training that starts on Monday. I'm trying to resist the urge to call it off and ignore the tapes in my head that want to play negative messages like: you have a hard time focusing now, what if you can't stay on task? What if you have to run to the bathroom all morning? What if your back or hands start to hurt and throb and ache and you can't take a break? Your mind really can be a powerful weapon against you if you let it. Every time one of those thoughts pops into my head, I try to zap it with a: chill, this is not life or death, it's just to brush up on skills you already have. It can take up to six months so you can take your time. This'll be good for you, you'll meet new people and get out of the house. It'll be so much easier on Tuesday morning, right? :)

So what is up with John McCain? Why is he attacking Barrack Obama like a schoolhouse bully so early in the campaign? His ads really make him look small and mean. I was hoping not to have all this negativity to wade through until the fall. The ads don't inspire me to vote for McCain. If anything, they're doing the opposite.

Usually we see Little T on Thursdays but that didn't happen this week because Linda's been playing devoted mother, picking T up after school every day since the hearing and spending a couple of hours with him. I shouldn't be so cynical. Somehow, though, I don't think this is going to last. We do get to spend time with the little guy tomorrow.

I just finished Hideaway by Dean Koontz.

Hideaway Hideaway by Dean Koontz

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
Hatch Harrison and his wife Lindsey were on their way back from a vacation to try and rekindle their marriage (they lost their son almost 5 years ago) when they are in a terrible car accident. Hatch is actually killed in the accident but is successfully resuscitated by a dedicated doctor at the hospital. It's this second chance at life that revitalizes their marriage and Hatch and Lindsey decide to adopt a disabled child, Regina. Unfortunately, Hatch seems to have brought back a disturbing ability with him -- he has an inexplicable connection to a psychotic serial killer and is able to see through that man's eyes.

As Hatch struggles with the disturbing visions and dreams, he soon realizes that the killer is also able to see through his eyes and that it places his new little family in danger.

Is the killer a human or some evil manifestation from hell? That's just one of the myeteries to be cleared up.

This was an exciting, very suspenseful book which became almost unbearable toward the end. There was a couple of real nail biting twists in the story, something Koontz is very skilled at introducing into his stories.

This is one of his earlier books but one I hadn't read. I'm looking forward to reading more of his books.
