Sad Songs That Cheer Me Up

Now you wouldn't think that sad songs could do that but for some perverse reason, they do. The first song I like to listen to makes me cry and then I feel better after a good one.

Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows one

Me and you are subject to the blues now and then
But when you take the blues and make a song
You sing them out again
Sing them out again

Song sung blue
Weeping like a willow
Song sung blue
Sleeping on my pillow

Funny thing, but you can sing it with a cry in your voice
And before you know it, start to feeling good
You simply got no choice

Song sung blue
Everybody knows one
Song sung blue
Every garden grows one

It is funny but true as Neil Diamond points out in his "Song Sung Blue". I start out with a cry in my voice but then I start to feel better.

That's why the next one I listen and sing to is "Sad Songs" by Elton John.

Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
`Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know
Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on
They reach into your room
Just feel their gentle touch

When all hope is gone
Sad songs say so much
If someone else is suffering enough to write it down
When every single word makes sense
Then it's easier to have those songs around
The kick inside is in the line that finally gets to you
and it feels so good to hurt so bad
And suffer just enough to sing the blues

Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say
Sad songs, they say so much

By the time I am done rocking to this song, I'm not sad anymore and I can move on to listen to other music!

Hooray for you, shrinking out of clothes and exercising (or intending to exercise!). :)
