Our Little T has come so far!
First, when the little boy on the left arrived on his bike, T tried to engage him by inviting him to go on the slide. I'd never seen him try to play with another kid before! Kids with PDD-NOS usually don't notice other children around them.
When the child elected to go on the swings, T decided he wanted to try too. He let me push him but was watching the other child from the corner of his eye, noting the pumping legs and how it made the boy go higher. Then Little T began to imitate him. Usually he's got his own set pattern of doing things that has nothing to do with what other people are doing.
I wanted to jump up and down with joy. Going to the special preschool program really has brought on so many positive changes in our little grandson!
Absolutely, a good placement can make all the difference! My sister's son (also PDD/NOS) is beginning to blossom in his new school! She did a poem about him for this week's One Single Impression.

How wonderful! This is due to large part to what great Grandparents little T has.
What a great website! I had a sister-in-law who is deaf and I learned ASL, but that was many years ago, and since she moved back east,
I've lost a lot...
I have friends with autistic children. There are so many new concepts, hopefully education will continue and we'll find out what's causing the spike in autism. I'm glad Little T is doing so well!
(BTW: I was a secretary in Spec Ed for five years)

That is such wonderful news! As a former teacher I know what a difference getting a child into the right program can make.
