GiST 4 / Monday Memes

Five positives of the day:

1. Our coffee maker has a timer on it. It's *so* nice to have nice hot coffee ready when we wake up in the morning. Ahhhh, bliss!

2. We had another lovely day. The sun was out and although it wasn't as warm as yesterday, it was still a very mild November day!

3. I saw my doctor (the shrink) today and the turmoil I'm experiencing is pretty normal. He wants to wait another month to see if my emotions settle down before messing with my meds. That's a relief. I don't like feeling as I do but it doesn't seem right to numb them. I need to feel these things to get well.

4. Went to the bowling alley to watch my daughter try out for the high school bowling team. It brought back fond memories and I enjoyed watching her compete. I loved to bowl! Maybe I will again someday.

5. Sicilian pizza with extra cheese and sausage: yum!

My goal of the day: I will accept how I feel and not criticize myself for feeling the way I do

Affirmation of the day: Feeling sad and angry is sometimes as important as feeling happy and peaceful.

God is always with me.

Monday Movie Meme

Share on your blog scenes depicting death and link back here at The Bumbles.

Tony's death (West Side Story) always made the biggest impact on me. I cry every time I see it. I think it hits me harder than "Romeo and Juliet" because the star crossed loves are of two racial and cultural backgrounds. It always seemed so much more tragic--that if people didn't hate each other because of the color of the skin of their cultural background, this kind of thing wouldn't happen.

This is a very tame scene now, but that shower scene--death by stabbing--in Psycho always makes me jump. You do something innocent like take a nice hot shower and some maniac comes in dressed in women's clothing and hacks you with a knife. (shudder)

Another scene that can bring me to tears: Jack's death in Titanic. Before his untimely death by ice, he gets Rose to promise him that she'll do everything she wants to do in life and that she'll never give up. Then at the very end, old Rose is lying in her bed surrounded by pictures of her doing all of those things and living life to the fullest. Then she goes to meet Jack again, young and beautiful as she was the day she met him. What a way to go!

Music Monday

This week I'm a first time participant in Music Monday. I wasn't sure what the theme was (some things need to be spelled out for me, lol) so I decided to go with getting back in touch with the me who was. When I was a teenager, I fell for Neil Diamond. The words in his songs just reached out and grabbed me because of the feelings and emotions.

"I Am I Said" was my song because of these words:

I am I said to no one there
And no one heard at all, not even the chair
I am, I cried
I am, said I
And I am lost and I can't even say why
leaving me lonely still

Yes, it's the lyrics are sad and sort of depressing but they were sort of a comfort to me. I can't explain why except for Elton John's words in "Sad Songs".
Guess there are times when we all need to share a little pain
And ironing out the rough spots
Is the hardest part when memories remain
And it's times like these when we all need to hear the radio
`Cause from the lips of some old singer
We can share the troubles we already know
Turn them on, turn them on
Turn on those sad songs
When all hope is gone
Why don't you tune in and turn them on

So this may seem very sad and depressing but really it's not. It's just how I'm getting back in touch with myself and who I was then to help me move past it all now. So it's all good. :)

Wow - our theme really did a lot to lift your mood didn't it?! Sorry about that :0)

You made some excellent choices - Titanic - I am such a sap for that movie. Leo just kills me in most everything he does.

And Neil - I grew up with parents who were huge fans in the 70's - and now I'm a Red Sox fan so I get to hear Sweet Caroline every game. Something about him just resonates with the masses.

I'm sorry it took me so long to make my rounds...what a week! It's always good to recenter and allow yourself the freedom to feel what you feel and be who you are :)
